WhatsApp lets users use the same account on multiple phones
Meta will soon add the ability to use one WhatsApp account on multiple smartphones. This feature will become part of the existing multidevice functionality that allows users to connect WhatsApp to a tablet or computer.
Meta sets the functionality available in the coming weeks for all WhatsApp users. This gives users the option to link an existing account when they download WhatsApp on a smartphone. When users select that option, they are presented with a QR code that they can scan through the WhatsApp app on their existing phone. The WhatsApp account is then linked to the new device. The feature will be available for Android and iOS.
According to Meta, the feature is intended for companies, among other things, so that multiple employees can use WhatsApp with the same business phone number. However, the feature will be available to all WhatsApp users, including private individuals. When using the feature, messages are synchronized between the different devices. Those devices can connect to WhatsApp individually. If the primary device is turned off for “a long period of time”, all paired devices will be automatically logged out. It is also possible to combine Android and iOS phones. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reports on Facebook that it is possible to use the same account on up to four phones.
WhatsApp has been testing the function of using one WhatsApp account on multiple phones for some time. The company also released a multi-device function earlier, with which users could also link their WhatsApp account to PCs, laptops and tablets. However, using multiple phones was not possible until now.
