WhatsApp lets users create and edit contacts without leaving the app

WhatsApp is working on a function to create and edit contacts within the app. This is evident from a beta version of the Android version of the app. At the moment, users still have to do that within their own Contacts app.

WhatsApp New Contact

The new interface is visible to some users of the Android beta, reports WABetaInfo. The feature is compatible with multiple versions, including 2.23.8.2, 2.23.8.4, 2.23.8.5, and 2.23.8.6, so it will not work for all users on those versions. In addition, the number of users of the beta on Android may have decreased after a bug in the beta version made it impossible to use the app.

Now users who want to add or edit a contact must do so in their phone’s default app, often called Contacts. This will no longer be possible after the change, which will speed up the process. WhatsApp then puts the contact in the background in the contacts list, but data entry is done within the app.

It is unknown when the feature will appear in the stable version of WhatsApp. It is also unclear whether the feature will come in the iOS version. Typically, it takes several months for beta features to hit the stable version of Meta’s chat app.
