WhatsApp is working on a feature that will let users quietly leave group chat
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow you to quietly leave a group chat. However, the service also appears to be working on an overview of former group members, which can be viewed by other users in the group chat.
WABetaInfo has noticed the feature in a test version of the messaging app. The site has previously written that WhatsApp is working on the possibility to get out of a group chat undetected, but shared a screenshot of it on Tuesday.
The feature should lower the threshold to leave a group chat. While the rest of the group will not be immediately aware of another user’s departure, the group admins will be notified. “Only you and the group admins will be notified that you’ve left the group,” the message reads. It is unknown when the feature will be available to all users.
WhatsApp also seems to work to a list of users who have left the group. The overview is visible to all group members, writes WABetaInfo. It is not clear when the list will be available to testers.
In the coming weeks, WhatsApp will double the user limit of groups to 512 members. It also makes it possible for users to share larger files. The file limit was 100MB and will be 2GB.
