WhatsApp announces that it has reached a new daily record in the field of messages handled. In 24 hours, chat app users sent and received a total of 64 billion messages. That is ten billion more than with old & new.

Users sent Tuesday 20 billion and received 44 billion messages. That is significantly more than the 18 billion messages sent and 36 billion received by December 31, 2013, while the record for that of June dates, when 10 billion messages were sent and users received 17 billion messages. The service has more than 465 million users.

With the figures, WhatsApp shows that the growth is far from over. After the acquisition by Facebook in February, many users on the internet indicated that they were switching to alternative chat apps. Indeed, Telegram and Line, for example, seem to be growing, although they do not come close to WhatsApp in terms of numbers.

Line announced on Wednesday that it has 400 million users, but according to The Next Web, this includes multiple installations on a single account. Line’s record is 10 billion messages per day. Telegram has, according to the latest count 35 million users. WeChat is said to have 355 million users.
