WhatsApp for Android will soon have Picture-in-Picture capability
WhatsApp may soon be able to show picture-in-picture video from Instagram and YouTube within the chat app, which is a new feature in Android 8 Oreo. That news reports WABetaInfo.com, based on beta version 2.18.234.
As the name suggests, WABetaInfo specializes in detecting upcoming WhatsApp features. The site demonstrates the feature’s presence in this beta release including an animated .gif file. The video window can also be dragged and paused.
The function would work with YouTube and Instagram videos, but the latter would not be able to show Story videos. It may be added before release. In fact, other video services may also be added in the meantime.
The iOS version of WhatsApp has had this capability since May this year and supports video content from YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. That the latter two sources are given priority is not entirely surprising, since Instagram and WhatsApp are daughters of Facebook.
