WhatsApp ends support for BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 – update

WhatsApp will no longer support BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 from December 31. From that moment on, the app no longer works on the operating systems, after the option to create accounts on the operating systems was lost earlier.

WhatsApp has announced the end of support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 on its support page. Support for Nokia S40 will end on December 31, 2018 and Android versions 2.3.7 to 2.3.3 will continue to be supported until February 1, 2020. Older Android versions had already discontinued support.

Actually, support for BlackBerry and Nokia software would be discontinued at the end of 2016, WhatsApp announced in early 2016. Support for BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 has been extended twice, with Nokia S60 ending June 30, 2017, and Nokia S40 ending at the end of next year. Incidentally, recent BlackBerry devices such as the Priv, Dtek50 and KEYone run Android versions that WhatsApp just supports.

Whatsapp recommends that users move to newer OS versions, such as Windows Phone 8.1, iOS 7.0 and Android 4.0 or later versions of those operating systems.
