WhatsApp drops support for 10-year-old iPhone 4s
WhatsApp has released an update that requires iOS 10 or later on iPhones. This means that it is no longer possible to use the app on the iPhone 4s from 2011, which Apple has upgraded to iOS 9.

With the update, WhatsApp now supports iPhone 5 from 2012 and newer on iOS. The supported version iOS 10 came out in 2016. For Android, WhatsApp now supports 4.0.3 and newer; that version came out in December 2011 and almost all Android phones from 2012 and newer can therefore run the chat app.
WhatsApp occasionally drops support for older operating systems. For example, support for Windows 10 Mobile has already expired and WhatsApp no longer works on older operating systems such as BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS, Windows Phone, Symbian and more. WhatsApp only works on iOS, Android and KaiOS. The latter operating system only concerns selected phones from version 2.5.1.
