WhatsApp beta shows how many times message has been forwarded
WhatsApp has a function in a beta to see how often a message has been forwarded. In fact, if a message has been forwarded five or more times, it will be labeled as “forwarded often” in the chat. The feature is probably intended to combat misinformation.
WABetaInfo.com discovered the feature in beta version 2.19.80, which is available in the beta branch. This information can only be requested in this beta version for messages that the user has forwarded himself; the information is in the message info screen, which can only be requested for sent messages. However, the ‘frequently forwarded’ stamp will still appear in the chat log, where both parties can see it.
WhatsApp has already made several changes to its platform to combat disinformation. In India, for example, several lynchings have occurred, fueled by false accusations that circulated en masse on WhatsApp. As part of the fight against such, WhatsApp has limited the maximum allowed concurrent forwards, labels those messages as such and blocks two million accounts every month.
