WhatsApp allows all users to decline group invitations
WhatsApp is currently rolling out its previously introduced feature to decline group invitations worldwide. Until now, this feature was only available in India in beta form.
During the beta in India, users had three choices to determine who could add them to a group conversation: everyone, just the saved contacts, or nobody. In an update of a blog post, the company writes that something has been adjusted based on feedback. The option ‘nobody’ has been replaced by ‘my contacts except’. That gives users the option to select all contacts or exclude certain contacts.
Users who want to use this feature need the latest WhatsApp version. This WhatsApp feature was previously discovered in the app’s code and became available in India in early April, which is said to be a response to inquiries from the Indian government. That would be related to India’s desire to prevent people in the country from having to deal with all kinds of invitations and spam from political parties, which include WhatsApp to spread their messages during the April elections.
