WhatsApp adds more functionality to group conversations
WhatsApp gives users more options in group conversations. For example, there’s a new feature that shows a summary of replies and @mentions if users haven’t opened a group chat for a while.
The Group catch up feature appears as an @ icon at the bottom of the chat when users open a group chat with many new messages. Furthermore, it is now possible to search for participants on the group’s page and WhatsApp says it has added protection so that people can’t just be added back to groups they have left.
From now on, administrators can also take away the administrator rights of others. People who have started a group can no longer be removed from it by other admins. In addition, it is now possible to add a description to groups with text. When a new person joins the group, they will see the text at the top. Admins now have the ability to restrict who can edit the group’s name, icon, and description.
The new functions will be in WhatsApp for Android and iOS from Tuesday, the messaging service reports on its blog.
