Western Digital Releases WD Blue SN550 NVME SSDs
Western Digital comes with new NVME SSDs in the WD Blue series. The SN550 SSDs will replace the current SN500 models and will be upgraded to a PCI-e 3.0 x4 interface. The SN550 has a starting price of 58 euros for a 250GB model.
The SN500 SSDs were Western Digital’s first affordable NVME SSDs. Those SSDs were released about six months ago. The new SN550 SSDs come in variants of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. The SN550 SSDs do not contain dram, just like the SN500 series.
According to WD, the new SSDs achieve a sequential read speed of up to 2400MB/s. The maximum sequential write speed of the 500GB and 1TB model is 1950MB/s. The sequential write speed of the 250GB variant is at most 950MB/s.
The WD Blue SN500 NVME SSDs had a PCI-e 3.0 x2 interface and therefore achieved lower sequential speeds. The new SSDs also perform better when it comes to random reads and writes.
Just like their predecessors, WD gives the Blue SN550 SSDs a five-year manufacturer’s warranty. The suggested retail prices have remained the same compared to the SN500 series. The SSDs will be available from Tuesday through the Western Digital website. The 250GB model costs 58 euros there, the 500GB variant costs 82 euros and the 1TB model is available for 145 euros.
