Western Digital releases My Book desktop hard drives with 22TB and 44TB of storage

Western Digital has released a new version of the My Book desktop hard drive. It has a capacity of 22 terabytes. The company also releases a My Book Duo with twice that capacity.

Western Digital is not providing any further specifications on the new My Book, which may indicate that the device will have the same specifications as the current version of the desktop hard drive. It’s a small desktop tower that houses hard drives and runs WD’s storage software. The My Book was available in seven variants so far, with storage between 4TB and 18TB. Now Western Digital adds a version of 22TB. There will also be a new My Book Duo, a physically larger variant that is now available with 16TB to 36TB. In the future, two 22TB drives can be used for a total storage capacity of 44TB.

The existing My Books have a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 connection. In addition, there are two USB-A ports on the device that are compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0. There is no Ethernet port on the existing devices and WD does not write anything about this for the new device.

The drives in the My Book are optimized for RAID backups. On the My Book Duo, one of the drives can be reconfigured as RAID-1 for a redundancy drive. On the Duo it is also possible to configure the drives as JBOD, so that they can be used as two separate drives. The normal My Book will cost $ 599, converted and including VAT that is 677 euros. The Duo costs $ 1099, which amounts to 1245 euros.
