Western Digital Provides WiFi Access to My Passport Wireless Drives
Western Digital has announced a new line of external hard drives featuring direct Wi-Fi access. The WD My Passport Wireless drives are available in storage capacities up to 2TB.
The My Passport Wireless hard drives feature 802.11n Wi-Fi. Up to eight users can log in to the drives’ hotspot function at the same time. The DLNA protocol is also supported, so that media files can be streamed to, for example, a suitable television.
WD has also equipped the My Passport Wireless drives with an SD card reader and a USB 3.0 interface. The integrated battery offers a working time of up to six hours and a standby time of 20 hours. Links to external cloud storage services can be made via the WD My Cloud app. It is available for iOS and Android.
The drives are available with 500GB, 1TB and 2TB of storage with prices of 159.99 euros, 199.99 euros and 249.99 euros respectively. According to Western Digital, the My Passport Wireless hard drives are available immediately.
