Western Digital Introduces SN850X SSD With Speed Up To 7300MB/s And 4TB Variant
Western Digital introduces a faster variant of its WD Black SN850 SSD. This new SN850X SSD will have a higher read speed and a 4TB variant. The WD Black SN850X will be released in the summer. The company also comes with an external P40 SSD with speeds of up to 2GB/s.
The WD Black SN850X achieves according to the manufacturer sequential read speeds up to 7300MB/s. With the current SN850, that is 7000MB/s. However, Western Digital does not mention write speeds or arbitrary speeds. The SSD will be available in variants with 1TB, 2TB and 4TB storage capacity. Western Digital supplies the SN850 with up to 2TB storage capacity. The SSD again has a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and gets a controller from Western Digital and dram cache.
The SN850X also uses faster 112-layer BiCS5 TLC nand, the company confirms opposite the German ComputerBase. This achieves the higher reading speed. Western Digital says it is also revising certain components of the SSD, which should ensure better energy efficiency.
Western Digital will release the SN850X in July. The 1TB variant has a suggested retail price starting at $190. No prices are known for the other models. 1TB and 2TB models with heatsink will also be available at an additional cost. That heatsink gets RGB LEDs, which are controlled via the WD Black Dashboard software.

External WD Black P40 SSD with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2
Western Digital is also introducing an external WD Black P40 SSD. It has a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, which is theoretically suitable for transfer speeds of up to 20 Gbit/s. Western Digital claims that the P40 has read speeds of up to 2000MB/s. Again, Western Digital does not share sequential write speeds or random speeds.
The WD Black P40 will be released this summer with 500GB, 1TB or 2TB storage capacity and will receive a housing with RGB LEDs, which are controlled via Western Digital software. The 500GB model will have a suggested retail price of $120. Western Digital does not report suggested retail prices for the other models.
