Well-known YouTube downloader goes offline after copyright claim
Due to a copyright claim from the Recording Industry Association of America, GitHub has taken the youtube-dl page offline. The popular software made it possible to download and convert YouTube videos.
That the creators of youtube-dl have received a copyright claim is stated on the GitHub page, where the letter from the RIAA is posted. According to the copyright association’s lawyers, the YouTube downloader violates the rights of the content companies it represents, such as Sony Music and Universal Music. They don’t want their videos downloaded from YouTube.
Although youtube-dl is no longer available on GitHub due to the claim of the RIAA, the creators do have the option to appeal. If that is successful, it is possible that youtube-dl will be offered again.
Youtube-dl is one of the most popular YouTube video downloaders. Because it is open source, other downloaders also use it.
