Webshop Superaankoop.co.nl is offline after action by OM and FIOD
The webshop Superaankoop.co.nl has been taken offline by order of the Public Prosecution Service and the FIOD on suspicion of fraud. Raids have been made in Arnhem and Hengelo with regard to the case. The company is said to have committed VAT fraud on a large scale.
According to the Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service, the Superaankoop webshop specialized in electronics has committed €2.5 million in fraud in the past two years. The company allegedly did this by abusing the reverse charge mechanism. Importers do not pay VAT on the import of a product, but only do so as part of their VAT return. Superkoop allegedly stated too low values in that declaration and pretended that goods had been exported from China again.
During raids in Arnhem and Hengelo, forklift trucks, cars and administration were taken, and bank accounts and buildings were seized. There are several suspects, but no people have been arrested yet. De Gelderlander and Tubantia, among others, write about it.
According to the FIOD, it happens more and more often that dubious online stores commit fraud with VAT returns and import tax. The investigative service is therefore starting a broader investigation. “We are curious about the various methods with which fraud is committed”, Arno Kooij, director of enforcement of Customs, told De Gelderlander. Among other things, online stores are said to import products from Hong Kong via the United Kingdom as part of the fraudulent practices.
