Wear OS gets support for left-handed screen rotation
New Wear OS devices are getting a screen-reversing feature to make a smartwatch more suitable for left-handed users. Then the smartwatch can be worn in such a way that the buttons are towards the wrist, for ease of use.
A Google employee says Google developers are completing the 180-degree screen rotation feature and it will be available on “future new devices.” Further information will not be shared in the message; for example, it is not known whether older smartwatches will also get this feature. The post is in response to a feature request from a user who requested this in April 2018. Another Google employee said that month to pass the request on to the development team, it was shared in early 2020 that the feature was actually being worked on.
With the function, the smartwatch itself can be worn upside down, so that the buttons will be on the other side of the screen. This is useful, for example, for left-handed users. Now when they wear their smartwatch on their right hand, the buttons are on the side of their elbows, which users say is less user-friendly than when the buttons are towards the wrist. The Apple Watch has been able to rotate the screen for some time now.
