WD Announces My Cloud OS 3 with Sync Capability
WD has updated its My Cloud OS to version 3, including a custom user interface and extensive backup and synchronization capabilities. In addition, WD is releasing new My Cloud systems.
Among other things, WD has provided My Cloud OS with the new WD Sync functionality, which allows users to synchronize data across multiple devices. Users can install the WD Sync software on a computer, designate a folder, and then a My Cloud NAS keeps the contents of the NAS in sync with the designated folder.
The OS also allows automatic backup of photos from smartphones and tablets, WD has developed a mobile app for iOS and Android. In addition, there is a new tool for transferring files to and from My Cloud systems. With the option My Cloud Albums, owners of such a NAS can give a group access to a folder with photos and videos. This can be done on mobile via an app that will be available at the end of September.
Developers get access to an API and SDK to expand the platform with new capabilities. The SDK is based on Docker, which makes it easy to roll out containerized apps, among other things.
WD is pairing the introduction of My Cloud OS with the arrival of a new NAS system. The second-generation My Cloud Mirror features two drives in raid1 and now comes with 1GB of RAM and a Marvell Armada 385 dual-core at 1.33GHz instead of single-core at 1.2GHz. WD comes with variants with storage capacities of 4TB, 6TB and 8TB. The systems will be available September 30.
