Waymo is going to start driving its self-driving cars again, after it stopped some time ago due to the corona crisis. Next week, the cars should start driving again in Phoenix, after which there will be a steady upscaling.

Waymo says on its blog that it wants to start putting its self-driving cars on the road in phases. Phoenix, a city in the US state of Arizona, will be next on May 11th. Measures have also been taken to prevent infections with the corona virus, including keeping distance from each other in company halls and regularly cleaning the cars. If all goes well, Phoenix will be followed by the cities of Detroit, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

During the driving stop, Waymo continued to test self-driving cars through software simulations. According to the company, it is possible to simulate approximately 30 million kilometers driven per day. This has enabled it to improve its software for self-driving cars, despite the discontinuation of physical journeys.

Waymo announced in March that it would stop testing its self-driving cars on the road for the time being. This has to do with the outbreak of the coronavirus, which would no longer allow employees to work safely.
