Watchmaker Tag Heuer wants to make a smartwatch
The manufacturer of quality watches Tag Heuer also wants to produce a smartwatch itself. The director of the company has announced this. The company started developing a smartwatch four months ago.
The company has already concluded ‘various partnerships’ and is considering making acquisitions for the development of the smartwatch. The head of the watch branch of LVMH, the luxury goods giant that includes Tag Heuer, has told Reuters news agency. The watch is expected to hit the market in early 2015 at the earliest. The watch will only be released on the market when it is ready and ‘new and unique’, according to the CEO.
LVMH does not want to indicate whether there is collaboration with Google, which offers an operating system for smart watches with Android Wear, or Intel. Earlier, the rumor came out that the watch would have an Intel soc on board. The watch would also be able to estimate how many calories the user burns.
LVMH chief executive, Jean-Claude Biver, acknowledges that smart watches are a ‘challenge’ for the Swiss watch industry. “We cannot ignore this approaching tsunami,” Biver told Reuters news agency.
