Watch Dogs: Legion for next-gen consoles doesn’t seem to offer a 60fps mode
Ubisoft has announced that the upcoming title Watch Dogs: Legion on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will support ray tracing in combination with 30fps and a 4k resolution. A mode with 60fps seems to be completely missing.
This can be concluded from a session on Reddit, in which Lathieeshe Thillainathan gave answers to questions from interested parties. He is a live producer at Ubisoft and was asked if ray tracing, 120fps and 4k is supported with Watch Dogs: Legion for the next-gen consoles. Thillainathan replied that the game involves ray tracing, 4k and 30fps on the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.
He did not indicate whether a mode with 60fps as a target is completely missing, but since he did not say anything about frame rates other than the mentioned 30fps, there is a good chance that a 4k60 mode will be missing and 60fps will probably not be an issue with a any lower, dynamically scaling resolution or if ray tracing is turned off. Another big game from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, supports up to 60fps at 4k resolution on both Series X and PS5.
Watch Dogs: Legion will be released on October 29 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As soon as the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 come out, there will also be special versions of the game for these next-gen consoles. Microsoft previously announced that Watch Dogs: Legion, among others, is on a list of games that are optimized for the Xbox Series X and S, although it is not clear what kind of improvements or new features are involved. Perhaps this game will support ray tracing, which will not be available on current generation consoles.
