Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for the Detective Pikachu movie. Until the arrival of the trailer, little was known about what the film would look like. Detective Pikachu hits theaters May 10, 2019.

The film is based in part on the 2016 Nintendo 3DS game of the same name. The story revolves around Tim Goodman, played by Justice Smith. His father has gone missing under mysterious circumstances and during his search he comes across Detective Pikachu. The role of the electric mouse is played by Ryan Reynolds, who has played the superhero Deadpool, among others. Other big names appearing in the film include Ken Watanabe and Kathryn Newton.

Detective Pikachu isn’t the only game to be made into a movie in the next few years. Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind Despicable Me, is working on a Mario animated movie. Capcom has agreed to produce a Mega Man live action film and Konami has given the green light for a Dance Dance Revolution film adaptation.
