WABetaInfo: WhatsApp gets a function for transferring chats and media without iCloud

WhatsApp may get a feature to transfer chat history and images to another iPhone without using an iCloud backup. This means that the iCloud storage limit no longer needs to be taken into account.

WABetaInfo discovered the feature in iOS beta version 23.9.0.72. The ‘Transfer chats to iPhone’ option has been added in the WhatsApp settings, which makes it immediately possible to transfer chat history and media files to another iPhone. Both phones must have WhatsApp downloaded and the same phone number set up in the app. Using the old phone, a QR code must then be scanned on the new phone, after which the transfer process will be initiated.

Previously, it was only possible to transfer WhatsApp history from iOS devices using an iCloud backup. This had the disadvantage that the free version of iCloud has a storage limit of 5GB, so there may not be room to store the entire history, including all media files. The transfer feature is now available to test users of the Testflight beta program. It is not known when the option will become available to other users.

A week ago discovered WABetaInfo already a similar feature in the Android version. The ability to transfer chats without having to use Google Drive was added. Otherwise, this function works the same way.
