Volkswagen has problems with the software of the new electric ID.3 car. More than 20,000 models are built with incomplete software, which must then be manually updated. It is not known what the problems are.

That writes the German Manager Magazin. Before the problem is solved, thousands of cars are produced with an ‘incomplete software architecture’ for months. The magazine does not write exactly what software problems the automaker has, but it would be “a huge problem”. It is also not known whether the problems are causing the delivery of the car to be delayed. The ID.3 is Volkswagen’s first electric car that has been developed completely ‘from scratch’ as ev. The e-Golf and the e-Up built on models with a combustion engine. It should be on the market by the middle of next year.

According to Manager Magazin, the cars are first parked in a parking lot for months before engineers can update the software. That would already be the case with 10,000 models. In total, 20,000 ID.3 models will soon have to be manually updated. The updates can only be sent over-the-air when Volkswagen starts with a new production line in May next year.
