Volkswagen doubles deliveries of all-electric vehicles in 2021

Volkswagen delivered 263,000 all-electric vehicles last year, which was 97 percent more than in 2020. According to the company, there are still 95,000 European orders for ID electric models on the shelf.

VW delivered 134,000 battery powered electric vehicles in 2020, but in 2021 that increased to 263,000. Delivery of hybrids increased by 33 percent to 106,000 vehicles. In total, the delivery of fully electric and hybrid vehicles increased by 73 percent to 369,000.

These vehicles make up 7.5 percent of VW’s deliveries worldwide, up from 4 percent in 2020. In Europe, that share is much higher: 19.3 percent versus 12.6 percent in 2020. In 2021, even one in four vehicles delivered in the home country of Germany was a fully electric or hybrid model.

Volkswagen sold 119,650 ID.4 models and 76,000 ID.3 models last year. From the email! 41,500 units were sold. In Europe, the carmaker still has a backlog of 95,000 ID. models to deliver.

In total, the number of VW cars delivered fell by 8 percent to 4.9 million. The manufacturer refers to the chip shortages as the cause of delivery problems and the decreased sales numbers. Volkswagen also expects a negative impact from chip shortages for the first half of 2022. Production will stabilize later in the year, the company expects.
