Vodafone cuts customer service and cuts jobs

Telecom provider Vodafone will cut back on customer service and cut 24 jobs. The Vodafone helpdesk would be too expensive compared to other companies. It is not yet known whether there will be any forced redundancies.

Vodafone made Thursday familiar that the helpdesk department is being reorganized, making 24 employees redundant. It concerns support functions; according to Anniek de Ruijter, spokeswoman for Vodafone, the number of people who actually answer the phone remains the same. It is not yet known whether there will be layoffs or whether the redundant employees will be able to find work elsewhere within Vodafone. “We are keeping all options open at the moment,” says De Ruijter.

The Vodafone helpdesk would cost too much compared to the helpdesks of other companies and those of Vodafone in other countries. That is why the employment conditions are also being overhauled, but it is not yet known how this will happen. According to Vodafone, the help desk employees continue to grow in their salary for a relatively long time and they have almost twice as many vacation days as help desk employees from other companies. The organization could also operate more efficiently because many services have become accessible online.

In November it was already announced that Vodafone wants 1.5 billion pounds or 1.65 billion euros economize. According to Vodafone, the cutbacks in customer service are part of the efficiency measures, although De Ruijter states that these are independent. According to her, there are no more budget cuts for the time being.
