VLC reposts app in App Store
The team behind the VLC media player has re-posted the iOS version of the app on the App Store. Twice before, the application was removed from the App Store. At the moment, the app can only be downloaded by users who have downloaded it before.
It is likely that ‘new’ users will be able to download the app soon, but when is not yet known. VLC told TechCrunch that the current release, for users who have already downloaded the app, is intended to test whether everything works. Perhaps the media player will appear in the App Store for everyone next week; VLC hints that news about iOS, among other things, will come out.
The VLC app for iOS was removed from the App Store twice. The first time, VLC removed an iOS port from the media player created by a third-party developer, because placing the app in Apple’s application store would violate the GPL license terms of the VLC media player. In 2013, VLC itself released an iOS version, which was licensed differently. A year later, however, that version disappeared from the App Store for unknown reasons. VLC merely stated that it was “working with Apple on a solution.”
