VLC for Android has reached 2.0 status with the most eye-catching feature being the ability to play files shared over a local network. It is now also possible to download subtitles directly from OpenSubtitles.

Also, the Android TV interface of the app has been improved and merged with the regular Android version, which means that if the format of the device better suits the TV look or if a user likes that interface more, it can be used .

Furthermore, it is now possible to create playlists with videos. This was already possible for audio. Popup video, the ability to play the video in a separate, separate window has been added and the option to use two versions of the same app, so playing two videos, also works for devices that support Samsung MultiWindow or LG Dual Window.

Users who like to know which videos they have watched can use the history function. The feature once existed briefly and only in version 0.9, but then it was not possible to turn off history.

Jean-Baptiste Kempf, president of VideoLAN, also reports on his blog that decoding should be faster by using a new asynchronous hardware decoder and that the number of supported codecs has been updated.
