Vivaldi releases final version of browser in a few weeks
Vivaldi plans to take its web browser out of beta soon. The Chromium-based browser has been available in the test program for several months now, but should now appear as final in a few weeks.
Ruarí Ødegaard, who works at Vivaldi, made this known in a conversation with Softpedia. The software would already be stable enough to use as a primary browser and should therefore be released “very soon”. Versions for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux are planned for the final release, according to the CEO. This brings an end to a months-long beta period that started in November.
At the same time, Vivaldi released version 1.0.435.5 of the browser, a so-called snapshot release. In the new version, among other things, the import of data should be improved, including passwords. The software is built on Chromium 49.0.2623.110, and it is likely that the final version of Vivaldi is also based on this.
Vivaldi was founded by Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder of Opera and CEO of that company until 2010. He believes that Opera’s development went in the wrong direction, after which he started with an alternative. According to von Tetzchner, Vivaldi is mainly aimed at the needs of ‘power users’, who want a fast, powerful and customizable browser.
