Vivaldi browser with tracker blocking comes to Android and desktops
The developers of Vivaldi have released two new versions of the Chromium-based web browser. This concerns version 3.0 for desktops and version 1.0 for Android. Both variants now come standard with tracker blocking.
Tracker blocking in Vivaldic
The browser maker announces the release of the two browser versions via a blog post. The browser now comes with tracker blocking. For this, the developers use the blocklist that DuckDuckGo uses in its Tracker Radar tool. This functionality was already announced in March. Version 3.0 of the desktop web browser also has a pre-installed ad blocker, but users have to enable it manually. Furthermore, the browser now includes a clock in the status bar and Vivaldi introduces functions that should make it easier to navigate through web pages.
The development team has now also released version 1.0 of the Android variant. The mobile browser was already available as a beta version for several months, but has now received an official release. The mobile version offers many functions from the desktop version. For example, so-called Speed Dials are supported in the Android browser. A notes function is also present, and users can synchronize the desktop and smartphone versions with each other. The maker uses its own servers that are located in Iceland. The developers use end-to-end encryption and say not to track users.
The mobile browser also comes standard with DuckDuckGo’s tracker blocklist and also includes a built-in ad blocker, Vivaldi reports. Version 1.0 of the browser is now available for download from the Play Store and works on devices with Android 5.0 or newer.
