Vivaldi adds email, calendar and RSS feed to browser
The developers of Vivaldi have released a beta version of the browser in which a mail client, RSS feed and calendar function are integrated directly into the browser. Users have to turn it on themselves.
The new features are in snapshot 2115.4 of the browser. It is the first time that the browser maker’s mail and calendar software is shown. Vivaldi warns users that the features are still in ‘pre-beta’ and therefore not enabled by default. Users can enable the functions themselves via vivaldi: // experiments.
Users can import their existing email into the client via imap and pop3. Users can also create a new e-mail address via the browser. A number of services are standard options for this, including FastMail. It is possible to link multiple e-mail addresses to the mail client, and users can set their own shortcut keys to mark selections as read, for example. It is not yet possible to encrypt e-mails with pgp, but according to the makers this will be in a future release.
In addition to the e-mail client, the browser also has a calendar function. In it, users can import their own calendar and synchronize it via existing calendar services such as Google Calendar or Outlook, or other services that can be synchronized via CalDAV.
Finally, Vivaldi will also get its own RSS reader. Therefore an RSS logo will appear in the url bar. Users can import existing feeds as .opml files.
