Visual Studio 2010 Patch Causes PC Crashes
Windows and Visual Studio 2010 users are reporting issues with a patch that Microsoft has released. KB3001652, a so-called rollup update for Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime, is causing computer crashes for many users.
Windows would crash while installing KB3001652, part of Microsoft’s monthly patch Tuesday round. Affected users must be running Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 to receive the patch via Windows Update.
Users affected by the patch’s failed installation will be forced to reboot their system via a cold reboot. There are also reports of users continuing to experience issues after a system reboot. According to Winbeta, the problems do not only affect desktop versions of Windows, but also servers and workstations. There will also be notifications from Surface Pro 3 users. Microsoft has since taken the offending patch offline.
Microsoft has recently been struggling with releasing patches that cause problems. For example, in August last year a patch was released that resulted in blue screens for many users.
