Virtual Reality without cable with the Vive Wireless Adapter
During Gamescom, HTC Vive announced the availability and pre-order capability of the Vive Wireless Adapter for both the HTC Vive and the Vive Pro. This new adapter frees Virtual Reality users from a cable to their PC without sacrificing performance requirements for premium VR.
Vive & Vive Pro
This new base adapter works with both Vive and Vive Pro . Vive Pro owners require an additional compatibility package that consists of a connection cable, foam padding and a mounting device. The Vive Pro compatibility package is available for € 75, -.
“ Ever since the introduction of Vive we have looked at the possibility to add a wireless experience to premium VR, which was also one of the wishes of consumers and business customers, ” according to Paul Brown , GM Vive Europe.
Vive Wireless Adapter
The installation of the Vive Wireless Adapter takes only a few minutes. Users only need to install the PCI e-card and attach a sensor to the PC that receives the signals from the wireless Vive headset. The adapter has a range of 6 meters, with a field of view of 150 degrees from the sensor. He works in the interference-free 60 Ghz band with Intel’s WiGig specification. This, combined with the DisplayLink XR codec, ensures low latency, high performance and a battery that lasts for hours.
The adapter is powered by the HTC QC 3.0 PowerBank, which can also be used as a charge pack for a smartphone. The retail package comes with one PowerBank. Extra PowerBanks can be purchased separately.
