Id Software is working on a new VR game. This is evident from a classification granted in Australia. The game is referred to as Project 2021A, the title is unknown. According to the rating, the game contains a lot of violence.

The Australian approval authority gives the game an 18+ label because of the amount of violence. In recent years, Id Software has mainly focused on Doom and Doom Eternal. A VR version of the former also appeared. The new project may be a VR version of Doom Eternal, although there are no concrete indications for this.

It is not yet clear when id Software’s new VR project will be released. The codename 2021A seems to indicate that it is a release for this year. Doom VFR came out a year after the 2016 release of Doom. That VR game came out for PC and PlayStation VR.

Id Software is part of publisher Bethesda. Its parent company, ZeniMax Media, is being acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 billion. Id Software thus comes into the hands of the Xbox maker. It is unknown whether the new VR game will be released for PlayStation consoles. Ongoing agreements between Bethesda studios and Sony will be honored, Microsoft previously indicated.
