Videoland has 903,000 paying subscribers
The number of paid subscribers of the RTL streaming service Videoland was 903,000 at the end of 2020. RTL Nederland reports this in its annual figures. This means that the service is 38 percent better than at the end of 2019, when it still had 653,000 paying subscribers.
According to RTL Group, the increase is due to the second season of the Mocro Mafia series and the popular Temptation Island. CEO Sven Sauvé is therefore satisfied: “Our goal was to come out of the crisis stronger. I am very proud to see that we have succeeded,” said Sauvé. “Despite the uncertain market conditions, we have stuck to our strategy and invested heavily in local content and Videoland.”
Despite the increasing success of Videoland, the corona crisis had consequences for RTL Group. For example, RTL Group’s turnover fell from 6.6 billion euros to 6 billion euros and the operating result fell from 1.1 billion euros in 2019 to 853 million euros in 2020. The net profit last year amounted to 625 million euros, while in 2019 this was still the case. amounted to 864 million euros.
Videoland came up with other subscriptions last summer. The basic subscription costs five euros per month and contains advertisements. With this subscription, the service can only be used on one device. With a Plus subscription of eight euros, customers can watch ad-free on a maximum of two screens at the same time. The Premium subscription costs ten euros and allows four simultaneous streams ad-free.
