Video app Zoom removes Facebook from iOS app and updates privacy policy
Video app Zoom has removed the Login via Facebook feature from its iOS app. The function turned out to be sending unsolicited data to Facebook servers. Users can still log in via Facebook through a browser window.
When starting and closing the app, the integration of the SDK sent the app to Facebook, among other things, about the device, including the model, identifying elements and how much storage users had left, Zoom reports. The company found that unacceptable and that is why it has removed the Facebook integration from the app.
The Motherboard site directed Zoom to forward data to Facebook, which is why the company thanks the site for sharing this information. From now on, users who want to log in via Facebook will have to do so via a browser window.
In addition, Zoom has updated its privacy policy, with the company mainly wanting to make it clear that it does not sell user data. Zoom is a video conferencing service. In recent weeks, the free trial version of the service has also become more popular with people who want to keep in touch with others privately from home.
