Via shows Nano-dualcore for net PS

Via has the first samples of its energy-efficient Nano processors with two cores ready. Mass production of the chip for netps should start in June, after which the new Nano chip will compete with Intel’s D510.

Via demonstrated the Nano-dualcore samples at the Embedded World 2010 trade show in Germany. The first announcement for the dual cores dates back to November 2008, but the manufacturer has already started production of samples and it should be up and running in June according to schedule.

With the two-headed Nano processor, Via is competing with Intel’s D510. This is the Atom CPU that Intel has reserved for use in netps. It is not known whether the Nano dual cores are also intended for use in netbooks. The clock speed, tdp and other specifications are also unknown. It is clear that this is a model with two cores on one chip and not a chip with two cores integrated on a single one.

The singlecore Nanos have not been very successful so far. The best-known laptop models equipped with this chip are the NC20 from Samsung and the Lenovo S12.
