VESA Releases Displayport 1.3 Standard
Standardization organization VESA released Displayport 1.3 on Monday. The new version of the standard has more bandwidth and support for 5k monitors, without sacrificing compression.
Displayport 1.3 has a bandwidth of 8.1Gbps per lane, which is a significant increase over the 5.4Gbps of version 1.2. The update also brings the total maximum bandwidth to 32.4 Gbps, with which the standard also supports high-resolution displays. This includes the newly announced 5k screens with a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels and a single connection.
The new standard also includes support for HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 with CEC, which should ensure that the TV program utility can handle 4K copy-protected footage. Furthermore, with the new release the 4:2:0 pixel structure will be available, with which there is support for future screens with very high resolution. Finally, video conversion to VGA, DVI and HDMI remain in the specification.
