Various Tilburg organizations offline due to university power failure – update
Tilburg University students and lecturers cannot email or call on Tuesday morning. The ICT infrastructure failed after a power failure and the emergency generator did not take over the power supply. Internet has since been restored.
The interruption of the power supply found place in building G of Tilburg University. Due to a combination of circumstances, the consequences were significant, according to press spokeswoman Tineke Bennema. “The emergency generator was not functioning properly. We are now busy deploying the backup infrastructure.” The university’s websites are also offline.
Internet is now working again on campus, but mail and telephony, among other things, are not yet working. The university advises students and staff not to go to campus until more information is available about the restoration of the facilities. When that will be, Bennema cannot say yet. “As quickly as possible.” The cause of the power outage is still being sought.
Update, 11.11: More organizations seem to be suffering from the failure of the infrastructure. This includes Xpect Primair, a foundation for Catholic primary education in Tilburg with 550 teachers and 6400 students. no internet. Bennema confirms that Tilburg University is a hub of connections, so that the consequences extend to other companies and organisations.
Update 2, 11.50: Willem II’s stadium is also offline, which means that customers cannot order a season ticket. In addition, the TIAS School for Business and Society affected due to the malfunction.
Update 3: The emergency generator initially took over the outage, but for unknown reasons it itself went out in the morning, after which the fiber network of Breedband Internet Tilburg went offline.
