‘Valve will officially present Steam Controller during GDC in March’
Valve will officially unveil the Steam Controller during the Game Developers Conference, which will be held in March in San Francisco, the director of Origin PC said. Valve has been working on the design of the controller since 2013.
Kevin Wasielewski, CEO of Origin PC, told Gamespot that the design phase has been completed and that Valve will unveil the final design of the Steam Controller at the GDC in March. The conference will be held between March 2 and 6. According to Wasielewski, production of the game controller has also started.
Valve presented a first concept of the Steam Controller in September 2013. The controller had a striking design. For example, the design had two trackpads in the places where thumbsticks are normally. A touchscreen was also integrated and the Steam Controller did not have a d-pad. In the past 1.5 years, Valve has made considerable improvements to the design. For example, the touchscreen was replaced by traditional keys. An image also surfaced in which the controller was given an analog stick. It is not yet clear what changes Valve has made to the final design.
During his interview with Gamespot, Wasielewski also let go that in his view the term ‘Steam Machine’ will die. According to the CEO, we should talk about ‘living room PCs’. He does expect a high demand for such systems.
