Valve stops supporting SteamVR on macOS
Valve is ending support for SteamVR on macOS. The company says in a short statement that it wants to put all its energy into developing for Windows and Linux from now on. Legacy builds will still work.
Steam developer Valve writes in a short statement on its own website that all support on OSX will end. The company offers no explanation, other than that “the team can continue to focus on Windows and Linux.” OSX users can still use legacy builds of the platform. They do this by enabling beta builds in the SteamVR section in Steam.
SteamVR for Apple’s desktop platform was announced in 2017, but it’s never really been popular. A recent user survey found that the vast majority of SteamVR users are on Windows. Remarkably enough, the Linux client continues to work.
