Valve releases Steam Link app for Quest 2, 3 and Pro for streaming from PC

Valve and Meta have released Steam Link support for the Quest 2, 3 and Pro. This allows users to play games on a local PC and stream them to their VR headset. This was previously possible in a roundabout way, but is now officially supported by the companies.

A Steam Link connection to a respective Quest headset requires a wired connection between a 5GHz router and a PC, so states Valve. Then users can use the free Steam Link app for a Quest, the source PC and headset install and connect via the shared Wi-Fi network. The company recommends using a PC with at least 16GB of RAM and an RTX 2070 video card. A connection via Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E is also recommended.

This way, Quest users no longer have to take a roundabout route to play Steam games. Until now, for example, it has been possible to use a third-party desktop streamer or Oculus Air Link and Steam VR, or to stream games to a Quest via a wired connection to a system. Users can now access their Steam library natively through the Steam Link app.
