Valve releases Steam Chat app for Android and iOS

Valve has released a separate app for the chat functionality introduced last year within Steam. This free Steam Chat app gives users access to various chat features in the Steam client.

Valve says the app includes “many important features” of chat in the Steam client, including a friends list, the ability to start group chats, sending invite links via text or email, and the option to send notifications by friend. , group chat or chat channel. The new app is available for both Android and iOS.

The company behind Steam says it is also currently working on new additions and improvements to the Steam chat app, such as voice chat. However, it is not clear when this speech functionality will become available. Valve says the arrival of its own Steam Chat app means the overall Steam Mobile app will receive security upgrades, including options to use QR codes for login.

Steam got a new chat functionality in the client on PC last July; it is now largely available in the mobile app. Displaying media such as videos, tweets and gifs has also been ported to the app.
