Valve releases Counter-Strike 2 update for CS:GO

Valve released Counter-Strike 2 on Wednesday. It is a major update to Counter Strike: Global Offensive and is based on the Source 2 engine. The shooter remains free-to-play and players can bring all their skins from CS:GO to Counter-Strike 2.

When the major update was released, Valve released a trailer out. In a blog post late the developer can see what changes have been made and what features have been added. There is a short training mode for new players and new music tracks and maps have been added to the game.

Other notable changes include changes to matchmaking. Players with a high CS Rating in Premier can no longer be on a team with players who do not have it. The ‘associates’ of one or more players who have cheated and received a permanent ban will also be punished with a reduced Profile Rank and CS Rating.

Furthermore, it appears that Counter-Strike 2 is not available for macOS. On the new store page macOS is not among the system requirements. It is not yet clear whether the shooter will be available to Mac users later. There is support for Linux.

Counter-Strike 2 was announced by Valve earlier this year and was initially expected to be released ‘in the summer’. Following the announcement, Valve began organizing beta testing for a limited number of players.
