Valve May Stop Delivering Steam Link
Valve announces on Steam that in Europe no more stock of Steam Link devices is available from suppliers. The US stock is reportedly running out of stock. This could mean the company is phasing out the physical Steam Link in favor of the mobile app.
Valve reports that it plans to continue supporting existing Steam Link hardware, as well as Steam Link software versions for smartphones and televisions. The company refers in a message to the Steam Link app, which allows users to stream games from their PC to smartphones, tablets and TVs without going through the Steam Link box.
The Steam Link app has been available for Android since May and makes it possible, among other things, to stream games from a PC with Steam to mobile devices or, for example, an Nvidia Shield TV or certain televisions. The devices must be connected to the same network and the Wi-Fi network must be a 5GHz network. The Steam Controller is supported.
Valve also wanted to release the Steam Link app for iOS, but Apple blocked it. It seems that the app will eventually get the green light from the Cupertino company. Earlier it appeared that Apple and Valve are working on a version that would comply with the rules of the App Store.
Valve’s box makes it possible, depending on the router used, to stream games from a PC to TVs without noticeable delay, in a 1080p resolution and at sixty frames per second. The Steam Link was regularly for sale for a few euros during offers on Steam, but is currently no longer available through the platform.
