Valve manuals show details of Knuckles vr controllers
Valve has published two manuals, which are intended for the devkits of the so-called Knuckles controller. For example, it allows users to grab virtual objects.
The two manuals can be consulted online. This shows that the controller is equipped with a trackpad with a number of buttons next to it. These are intended to be used with the thumb. In addition, the controller is equipped with sensors that enable new inputs, namely for determining gripping movements and for determining the position of individual fingers. Two values are possible: for a bent finger and for an extended finger.
According to the documents, it is necessary to perform a calibration after switching on the controller. However, this procedure only applies to the devkits. To perform the calibration it is necessary to close the hand around the controller and then open it for a second. Use of the devkits requires participation in the SteamVR beta program. As was previously known, the controllers are attached to the palm with an elastic. In SteamVR Home, the controller is automatically detected and the developer is automatically given five fingers.
Valve already showed a concept of the controllers during the Steam Dev Days in 2016. A tweaker present then explained how it works.
