Valve makes new Steam interface available to all users
Steam’s new interface has been available to all users since this week. The update also makes the Play Together beta available to everyone. This feature allows players to play local multiplayer games over the internet.
The new interface has been available for testing in the beta version of the game platform since September. The Steam client now includes a Library Home, which lists all the games that users own. Previously, this game library consisted of a list, but this now makes way for a dynamic page that shows recently played games and new game updates pontifically.
The new interface should also make contact with friends easier, according to Valve. This makes it easy for players to see which games their friends are currently playing. In addition, a new Events page has been added, where developers can provide information about events taking place in their games.
The game categories have also been adjusted. Users were previously able to categorize games. For example, users can create a category for indie games or installed games. Previously, these collections could only be seen in a list view, but now users can also choose to display only games from a category in a grid view.
The new update also makes the Steam Play Together beta feature available to all users. Play Together allows players to play local multiplayer games over the internet. This includes games with local multiplayer, co-op games that work over local networks and games with split-screen multiplayer. Games that support this are automatically in beta. For the function, Valve recommends an internet connection with a download speed of at least 10 to 30Mbit/s.
