Valve Introduces Steam Awards Based On Community Voting
Valve has introduced the Steam Awards. Steam users can nominate games for awards in nine fun categories. Four new badges have been made available for participating in the nomination.
Games can be nominated for various awards at the Steam Awards. “Test of Time” goes out to an older game that recently doesn’t feel old for its age. “I’m not crying, there’s something in my eye” is awarded to a game that is unexpectedly dramatic. ‘Five more minutes’ is for the game that keeps the player going all night, by playing one more game over and over. “Waaaauuuuw, dude!” is the award for a game with a surprising plot twist or impressive moment. “Villain Who Needs a Hug” is for the game featuring a bad guy who could use a hug.
There are also the categories ‘Game within a game’, for the game with the best minigame, ‘I thought this game was cool before it won an award’, for the game that has become popular despite a small marketing budget, and ‘Best Use of a Farm Animal’, which speaks for itself.
The last category is what Valve calls ‘We haven’t thought of everything’. The content of this category is intentionally blank so that the community itself can come up with ideas for a final category. A winner will be chosen from the most popular ideas.
There are four badges to win for participating in the nominations. Users can win badges by nominating a game, playing a game that the player nominated, nominating a game in any category, or reviewing a game nominated by the player or editing an existing review. Nominations run from November 23 to 29.
