Valve: Index headset stock will be much smaller in the coming months due to coronavirus
In an announcement, Valve says that its Index VR headset will be in stock in ‘much less large quantities’ due to the new corona virus. The company says it is doing everything it can to maximize supplies in the run-up to Half-Life: Alyx according to circumstances.
Valve let that know to UploadVR. The American game maker does assure that the Index headset will still be in stock before March 23, the release date of Half-Life: Alyx, but in what number is not mentioned. Valve urges interested parties to click ‘send notification’ on the headset product page, so that they will be notified when the product is back in stock.
Valve’s Index headset is said to be in high demand with the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, the first new Half-Life game since 2007 and a VR exclusive. However, the Index isn’t the only way to experience Half-Life: Alyx. SteamVR support is a requirement of the game and as a result, several other headsets qualify as well, including the HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Cosmos, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest, and the Windows Mixed Reality Headsets.
Cases of the new coronavirus mean that technology factories, mostly in Asia, have to be temporarily closed to limit its spread. This weekend, a Samsung factory in South Korea was hit.
