Counter-Strike 2 will definitely not be released for systems with macOS and 32bit Windows. Since the release of the CS:GO successor, there has been uncertainty about possible support for certain operating systems, which Valve has now clarified.

Valve mentions Counter-Strike 2 is a technological advancement, which means that older hardware is no longer good enough for the game. In line with this, systems based on DirectX 9, 32bit operating systems and macOS are no longer supported. Only 64bit Windows and Linux are supported for Counter-Strike 2. According to the developer, less than one percent of all active CS:GO players are affected by the decision in question.

Anyone who purchased Prime for CS:GO and, by extension, Counter-Strike 2 between March 22 and September 27 of this year has the right to request a refund. For macOS users, Valve still mentions the requirement that the majority of CS:GO playtime between the stated dates must have taken place on macOS. The return option is available until December 1, 2023.

Gamers with affected systems can still play a legacy version of CS:GO until January 1, 2024. According to the developer, this is a ‘frozen’ version of the shooter, with all the functionalities of the game, apart from official matchmaking. This version of CS:GO will remain playable after the stated date, but Valve warns that certain features may no longer work properly after that date.
